How to use a window breaker and seatbelt cutter in 3 steps
Always within reach
Keep it in the center console or the door pocket: where you can grab it without looking, seatbelt on.
Cut the seatbelt
Slide the strap into the notch of the protected blade and pull sharply.
Break a side window
Aim at the corner of a side window (never the windshield), break it as shown in the instructions, then get out.
Why keep a window breaker in your car?
Car in water
Power windows can stop working and water pressure keeps the doors shut. The side window becomes the way out.
Crash or rollover
After a crash, a seatbelt can jam and the doors can lock up. The seatbelt cutter frees you in one move.
Smoke or fire
When you need to get out fast, being able to cut your seatbelt and break a side window can make all the difference.
SafeCore Pro vs the alternatives
On the day, most drivers only have their elbow, their keys, or a hammer buried in the glove box.
Choosing a window breaker and seatbelt cutter for your car
A car window breaker is an emergency tool used to break a side window when you can no longer get out through the door: a car in water, a door jammed after a crash, smoke in the cabin. Combined with a seatbelt cutter, it also frees a seatbelt that stays stuck. SafeCore Pro brings both functions together in one compact tool, with no battery, that you keep within reach. To compare models, read our guide which window breaker to choose.
Where to keep a window breaker in the car?
An emergency tool only helps if you can reach it from your seat with your seatbelt on. Avoid the boot and the back of the glove box: prefer the center console, a storage tray or the driver's door pocket. If your family has several cars, plan one window breaker per car.
Which windows does a window breaker work on?
It is designed for tempered-glass side windows, which shatter into small pieces when you strike their corner. It does not work on the windshield, which is laminated, or on the laminated side windows fitted to some recent vehicles. The glass type is often marked in the corner of the window. Our detailed advice is in the article how to break a car window.
