Brise-vitre SafeCore Pro fixé sur son support dans la console centrale de la voiture

Where to keep a window breaker in your car?

The best window breaker in the world is useless at the bottom of the boot. In an emergency, you will be seated, seatbelt on, perhaps shaken. The tool must fall to hand in one second. Here is where to keep it.

The best place: the centre console

Fixed on the console, near the gear lever or the handbrake, the window breaker is reachable by the driver and the front passenger. It does not move in a crash, and you can find it even in the dark, without thinking. This is the spot we recommend.

Other good places

  • The driver's door pocket: reachable, as long as the tool is wedged and does not slide under other items.
  • Under the central armrest, if it opens easily.
  • In the back, a second tool for passengers, for example in a seat pocket, is a good idea for a family.

Places to avoid

  • The boot: out of reach from the cabin.
  • The back of the glovebox: too far from the driver, and often cluttered.
  • The sun visor: the tool can fall, and the visor is sometimes out of reach after a crash.
  • The rear-view mirror: a hanging object blocks the view and can become a projectile.

Do the test once

Sit down, fasten your seatbelt, close your eyes and grab your window breaker. If you manage it in under two seconds, it is in the right place. Take the opportunity to spot the window to aim for: our article laminated or tempered glass explains how to recognise it. To complete your car equipment, see also what to put in a car first aid kit.

Supplied with its console mount

SafeCore Pro clips onto a discreet adhesive mount: the tool always stays in the same place, ready to grab with one hand, seatbelt on.
